Home › Guides: when you break down

Broken down – what now? 7 steps

  1. Pull over safely: if possible onto the hard shoulder or a lay-by, and switch on the hazard lights.
  2. Put on a high-visibility vest and place the warning triangle behind the car – at least 150 m away on the motorway.
  3. Get passengers behind the crash barrier; don’t wait in the car on the motorway.
  4. Find your location: kilometre marker, exit name or the GPS position in the app.
  5. Call for help: open a request in the app or call 0850 532 95 52; if anyone is injured, call 112 first.
  6. Describe the problem: battery, tyre, fuel or engine fault – if it can be fixed on the spot, you may not need a tow.
  7. Follow the team: the app shows the team’s location and estimated arrival time.
